The majority of staffing for administrative and teaching positions occurs during the spring and summer months in preparation for the coming school year. This is mainly due to pending retirements, leaves of absence and other similar situations.
Internal Transfer Postings
Prior to June 15, as per the Memorandum of Agreement between the Employer and the PEI Teachers’ Federation, available positions are first posted internally to permanent and probationary employees. There are two basic types of staffing activities:
Administrative Transfer Postings: open only to those permanent and probationary employees currently holding an administrative position in the Public Schools Branch and who have been hired on the basis of a competition (this does not include acting appointments).
Teacher Transfer Postings: open to teachers who are presently employed with the Public Schools Branch under a Probationary or a Permanent teaching contract.
Please note: Teachers who sign a fixed-term contract for the upcoming school year are able to apply for “permanent” postings, but are not able to apply for other fixed-term positions once they have accepted a contract.
All vacancies will be posted on Jobs PEI. Prior to June 15, positions not filled through the Teacher Transfer process will be posted externally. After June 15, all available positions will be posted externally. Postings will be open for a minimum of three days.
