The Public Schools Branch is dedicated to ensuring safe travel for all students. PSB buses and equipment are outfitted with industry leading operational safety features and procedures are designed to prevent and deter any incidents. The PSB achieves this through a number of approaches, including:
awareness and education of students, parents and the community
ongoing training and testing for bus drivers in various areas of bus safety and operations
implementation and regular evaluation of best practices and safety procedures
student education and supervision;
Identifying and managing any situations with special requirements
working with community partners
Student conduct on buses
Student conduct on buses is an important component of school bus safety. Student handbooks issued at the beginning of each school year outline a code of conduct and provide information on disciplinary actions that result from negative behaviour. Parents should review this information with each student traveling on a bus to help ensure efficient and safe transportation for everyone.
The school bus safety education program S.E.C.U.R.E. (Safe Environment for Children Using Responsibility Education) has also been implemented across the PSB. This program teaches students about responsible behaviour and safety and outlines the procedures and consequences resulting from improper behaviour. It also provides insight into the roles and responsibilities of the bus driver.
