An alternative education program can be an option for students who are not meeting success in the regular school setting.
The Public Schools Branch has a number of alternative education sites throughout the province. The day-to-day operation of these programs are overseen by a counselling consultant, who provides support to the teacher and youth service worker who work directly with students.
While attending an alternative education, students will have their progress regularly reviewed and will be assisted in transitioning back to their local school, when appropriate.
There are many variables in considering whether an alternative education program is an appropriate option for a student. Parents should work with their local school to ensure other options have been explored and that alternative education is the best choice for their child. If the decision to pursue an alternative education program is made, the school will make a referral to the alternative education program’s counseling consultant.
